Nintendo still has part of the rights to GoldenEye. They had to OK GoldenEye being released on Xbox Live Arcade just a couple years ago, so that's why they got the Activision reimagining a year before the other ones. It was an exclusivity window.

A terrific overview. Amazing research -- I was able to fill in some gaps in my knowledge. Thank you! My nitpick: I would say you're doing a disservice to Street Racing Syndicate! The game itself seems really poor, but it's no fewer than THREE open-world cities. Two of those are kinda tiny, sure, but the third is bigger than the other two put together, and is a lot of fun to just hang out in and explore. By my count, there were five 3D open-world GBA racing games: - Driver 2 - Driver 3 ("Driv3r") - Street Racing Syndicate - Crazy Taxi - Starsky & Hutch I think you may have missed that last one in your analysis, though I'm not sure it's anything to write home about.

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction was ahead oh it’s time. It’s been almost 20 years since it was released and there hasn’t been anything like it. The game is banned in South Korea because it depicts a war between the two Koreas. The whole idea that you are in an open world with one of three choosable protagonists is great. I personally like to think that Mattias Nilson was the actual mercenary sent for the operation given how crazy the mission was and how insane he was. The physics were a little buggy even back then, but the realism was nice. Piloting a helicopter is incredibly difficult and dangerous let alone in a warzone. Whenever you were on a contract for a specific faction they would give you a few free airstrikes, but yeah while not on a contract airstrikes costed alot because if this was remotely a real scenario airstrikes cost militaries alot of money so imagine the cost for one person. That goes for military vehicles too. I like that you weren’t invicible and when your health got really low you went into survival mode. Don’t even get me started on the alternate endings. I would like to say that the South Koreans reunite the two Koreas, but given that you are hired by the Chinese Army Colonel in the second game it appears that didn’t happen. Really fun game I wish they had released it on PC. I almost want to get a PS2 just to play it.

You can play the game on PC through the driver open source engine, no draw distance or frame rate issues.

I played the hell out of this game on the Switch. I just loved playing it. I'm hoping to play other Cars games soon.

I had so much fun with this game back in the day. i'm so glad I was able to get it and replay it in series S. It's very clunky, but it's quite fun. BTW NK helicopters are very easy to steal, you can shoot the pilot with a sniper rifle and they're plenty of them in the Pyongyang areas, and you can just sound the horn whenever you are near the allies and they'll recognise you. To be honest the game gives you several tools you can take advantage of to cheese it. Hell, you can steal the ally helicopters at the start of the Ace missions and just go fight the boss.

Have to disagree with the voice acting being better paulie sounds like a whopper overall it seemed like the actors phoned thier lines in the game itself was redone for a 'modern audience' who have to be quest marker lemmings

Okay I'm going to ask the people here because I can't remember how to do it and I can't even remember if it was a thing in two of the maps, the nuclear plant and the one with the volcano, there were sort of buttons you could press I thought. The big button looking thing in the nuclear plant and a little lava pool near the volcano. I remember distinctly that I could activate these and that they would do something but I can't remember how to activate them. Does anybody know

This game is a shitty makeover for cars 2 The video game

Ah yes, the sad violine... This game is like Far Cry 2 to me. Slow, medetative, melancholic and sometimes depressing. I love the sequel too, but it's too cartoonish and b-movie-esque, which isn't bad, just feels different.

Japanese horror tends to be light on story but heavy on scares and that's why it's so great 😂

As a kid I played games on GB, GBC, DS Lite and DSi but never on GBA, not even GBA games on the DS Lite. Even though I distinctly remember I always wanted Pokemon Emerald since you could catch my 3 favourite Pokemon in it.

The Wii and Kinect were corny as hell.

I didn’t hate the game.. for me I didn’t like it as much because I could never figure out the cheats or how they work..but I honestly liked it enough that if it were on the store I’d buy it if they weren’t trying to take a legs on an almost twenty year old game.

It's so disappointing that the only version you can buy on the PSN store is the bloody PSP version. The same version that omits the Toy Box mode entirely.

Don’t play the Steam version? No problem, I got the actual disk install. Never prompted me to get Steam.

Just imagine if you could mix scale and freedom of mercenary with gameplay and visuals of Socom 2/Socom Combined Assault - something not quite modern yet, but strangely engaging and beautiful

Honestly, this is an awesome idea to incorporate some physical movement while gaming. It’s a shame they never went anywhere else with this. Same with the fitness ring, I wish they released more games for it. Imagine playing silent hill or resident evil this way?
